Owned by Amaka Osakwe, Maki Oh has been under the recent spotlight of international press for its celebrity clientele. Many African fashion bloggers took to the internet to feature a photo of Solange Knowles when she was spotted wearing a black slit skirt from the collection to Splendid’s store opening in New York. At an earlier event, she also paired a sheer silk chiffon blouse from Oh with Ferragamo pieces to Salvatore Ferragamo’s Fifth Avenue store re-opening. She’s not alone – Indie actress Leelee Sobieski was also found wearing a Maki Oh dress for the TV series ‘NYC 22′ New York premiere. Since these pieces were previously showcased during Arise Magazine Fashion Week in March, they were easy to recognize on stars. We think they both look fabulous!
Since then various media outlets such as Huffington Post have written about Maki Oh. And as if that was not enough, Women’s Wear Daily (WWD) named the label on their list of designers to watch. In their own words, ‘WWD has sifted through the masses, plucking out under-the-radar brands that you should know.’ Overall, the fall 2012 collection from Oh does not fail to impress. It is an eclectic mix of print, chiffon and lace fabrics with slit skirts. Many of the garments are cut-out in certain locations to show some skin helping the lady beneath look sexy yet sophisticated.
